Raisin Or Currant Buns

Ingredients

  • 2 c all-purpose flour sifted
  • 12 tsp baking soda
  • 12 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 4 Tbsp shortening
  • 34 c sour milk or buttermilk
  • 14 c sugar
  • 12 tsp cinnamon
  • 14 c raisins or currants finely chopped

Directions

  1. Sift flour once measure Add baking soda salt and sugar sift again Cut in shortening Add enough milk to make a stiff dough Turn onto floured board Knead slightly Roll into a rectangle 14-inch thick Spread with soft butter Sprinkle with sugar cinnamon and raisins or currants Roll as for jelly roll Cut in slices 34-inch thick Place cut side down on baking sheet Bake at 475 for 20 minutes Makes 12 buns
