Red Cabbage - German StyleSweet And Sour

Ingredients

  • 3 34 lb red cabbage
  • 12 c vinegar
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 2 big bay leaves
  • 12 c Crisco
  • 1 medium onion sliced thin
  • 2 apples
  • 34 c sugar
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 2 c boiling water

Directions

  1. Cut cabbage in half and slice thin
  2. Place in a large kettle of boiling water for 10 minutes
  3. Drain
  4. Put cabbage back in pot and add all other ingredients
  5. Pour the boiling water on last Bring all to a boil and simmer for 2 to 3 hours
  6. Be sure to use a close-fitting lid
