Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 oz red food coloring
  • 1-12 c sugar
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 2-14 c cake flour
  • scant tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp white vinegar
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp cocoa mix
  • 12 c vegetable shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp baking soda

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350
  2. Mix food coloring with cocoa and set aside
  3. Cream shortening with sugar
  4. Add eggs and coloring mixture and beat until very creamy
  5. Mix flour with salt Alternately mix buttermilk and flour mixture and vanilla
  6. Remove from mixer
  7. Add vinegar and baking soda
  8. Bake in 2 layer pans at 350 for 30-35 minutes
  9. Cool and frost with Seven Minute Frosting or frosting of your choice
