Red Velvet Cake
Ingredients
- 2 oz red food coloring
- 1-12 c sugar
- 1 c buttermilk
- 2-14 c cake flour
- scant tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp white vinegar
- 2 to 3 Tbsp cocoa mix
- 12 c vegetable shortening
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp baking soda
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350
- Mix food coloring with cocoa and set aside
- Cream shortening with sugar
- Add eggs and coloring mixture and beat until very creamy
- Mix flour with salt Alternately mix buttermilk and flour mixture and vanilla
- Remove from mixer
- Add vinegar and baking soda
- Bake in 2 layer pans at 350 for 30-35 minutes
- Cool and frost with Seven Minute Frosting or frosting of your choice
