Rye Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg yeast dissolved in 12 c water and 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 c water
  • 1 c milk
  • 12 c sugar
  • 12 c shortening
  • 2 c milk
  • salt
  • 1 Tbsp molasses
  • 2 c rye flour
  • 8 c white flour

Directions

  1. In mixing bowl dissolve yeast and sugar in 12 cup water Scald 1 cup water milk sugar and shortening
  2. Mix remaining ingredients and let rise 1 hour or until double in bulk
  3. Punch down and let rise again
  4. Knead each loaf before putting in pans Let rise 1 hour
  5. Bake at 400 for 15 minutes and reduce oven to 350 and bake additional 45 minutes
