Sally Lunn Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 c milk
  • 12 c shortening
  • 14 c water
  • 4 c sifted all-purpose flour divided
  • 13 c sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 pkg yeast
  • 3 eggs

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 10 minutes before baking
  2. Grease and flour a 10-inch tube pan
  3. Heat milk shortening and water to very warm
  4. Blend 1 13 cups flour with sugar salt and dry yeast in large bowl
  5. Blend warm liquids into flour at medium speed for 2 minutes
  6. Add 23 cup remaining flour and eggs and beat at high speed for 2 minutes
  7. Add rest of flour and mix well
  8. Cover and let rise until double about 1 hour and 15 minutes
  9. Punch down and turn into prepared pan
  10. Cover and let rise about 30 minutes
  11. Bake at 350 for 40 to 50 minutes
