Sauerbraten

Ingredients
- 3 lb bottom round steak or beef shoulder
- garlic if desired
- 2 tsp salt
- pepper
- 2 c vinegar
- 2 c water
- 12 c sliced onion
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 tsp peppercorns
- 14 c sugar
Directions
- Rub meat with a cut surface of garlic salt and pepper
- Place in bowl
- Heat vinegar water onion bay leaves peppercorns and sugar together but do not boil
- Pour hot mixture over meat cover bowl and let stand in cool compartment of refrigerator 4 to 8 days turning meat each day
