Sauerbraten Patties

Ingredients

  • 2 slices dry white bread cut in 12-inch cubes
  • 34 c hot water
  • 1 to 1 12 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 14 tsp pepper
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 13 c vinegar
  • 1 c water
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 6 gingersnaps crumbled

Directions

  1. Soften bread in water
  2. Add beef onion egg salt and pepper and mix thoroughly
  3. Form into patties
  4. Brown on both sides in butter in heavy skillet
  5. Mix remaining ingredients
  6. Pour over meat
  7. Cook covered on low heat for 30 to 40 minutes
