Ingredients

  • 3 sticks butter at room temperature
  • 1 heaping c confectioners sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 4 c all-purpose flour sifted

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 300
  2. Line pans with double layer of brown paper Do not grease
  3. Sift sugar knead in butter use on hand it is messy
  4. Add egg yolk mix in
  5. Add flour one cup at a time knead until smooth
  6. Divide into 3 8 or 9-inch pans
  7. Pat out with hand to 14 to 12-inch thickness
  8. Prick all over with fork
  9. Crimp edges and mark lightly with knife
  10. Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour Shortbread should be very pale
