Ingredients

  • 12 c butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 Tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • few drops lemon extract
  • 1 14 c sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c cake flour
  • 14 tsp salt
  • 12 c chopped nuts

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 325
  2. Cream butter with 12 cup sugar and vanilla
  3. Add egg yolks beating well
  4. Stir in milk
  5. Sift flour baking powder and salt together
  6. Gradually add to batter
  7. Add extract
  8. Pour into greased and floured 9-inch square pan
  9. Beat egg whites until frothy
  10. Gradually add remaining 34 cup sugar until meringue holds its shape
  11. Fold in nuts
  12. Spread over batter sprinkle with a little granulated sugar and bake 30 minutes
  13. Cool before cutting
