Slovak Poppy Seed Or Nut Roll

Ingredients

  • 12 lb butter
  • 2 cakes yeast
  • 1 c warm water
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 4 c flour
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water
  2. Set aside to rise while preparing rest of pastry
  3. Sift flour and salt together cut in shortening as for pie dough
  4. Add yolks and blend and knead for about five minutes
  5. Divide dough into four pieces
  6. Roll each piece and spread with poppy seed or nut filling
  7. Roll up into roll
  8. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes
