Ingredients
- 1 pkg dry yeast
- 1 12 c warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp sugar
- 4 c all-purpose flour
- 1 egg beaten
- 1 tsp water
- kosher salt sesame seed or poppy seed
Directions
- Dissolve yeast in warm water let stand 5 minutes
- Combine next three ingredients add to yeast mixture mixing well
- Turn dough out onto a floured surface knead until smooth and elastic about 8 minutes
- Divide into 16 portions roll each into an 8 to 10-inch rope
- Twist each into pretzel shapes letters or curlicues place on ungreased baking sheets
- Combine egg with water stir well
- Brush pretzels with egg mixture sprinkle with kosher salt or seed
- Bake at 425 for 12 to 13 minutes or until golden brown
- Yields 16 pretzels
