Soft PretzelsEasy Enough For Children To Make

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg dry yeast
  • 1 12 c warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 4 c all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tsp water
  • kosher salt sesame seed or poppy seed

Directions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water let stand 5 minutes
  2. Combine next three ingredients add to yeast mixture mixing well
  3. Turn dough out onto a floured surface knead until smooth and elastic about 8 minutes
  4. Divide into 16 portions roll each into an 8 to 10-inch rope
  5. Twist each into pretzel shapes letters or curlicues place on ungreased baking sheets
  6. Combine egg with water stir well
  7. Brush pretzels with egg mixture sprinkle with kosher salt or seed
  8. Bake at 425 for 12 to 13 minutes or until golden brown
  9. Yields 16 pretzels
