Sourdough Bread
Ingredients
- 1 c milk
- 13 c sugar
- 13 c shortening
- 1 pkg active dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp lukewarm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 12 c sourdough starter
- 2 c flour
Directions
- Scald milk add sugar shortening and salt
- Stir to melt sugar and shortening
- Cool to lukewarm
- Dissolve yeast in warm water Beat together cooled milk mixture yeast starter and 2 cups flour Add remaining flour to make a stiff dough
- Turn onto floured surface
- Knead 5 to 10 minutes
- Add enough flour to keep from sticking
- Place in greased bowl turning to grease surface
- Let rise until double about 1 12 hours
- Punch down let rise again about 12 hour
- Divide into two balls cover with towel
- Let rest 10 minutes
- Shape into 2 loaves put each into greased loaf pan Let rise until double about 1 hour
- Bake at 400 for 40 minutes
