Stewed Tomatoes

Ingredients

  • 1 16 oz can whole tomatoes
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 12 tsp allspice
  • 18 tsp salt
  • 3 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 slice bread crumbled
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp cold water

Directions

  1. Place all ingredients except butter cornstarch and water in a saucepan
  2. Cook over medium-low heat for 20 minutes
  3. Break up tomatoes with a spoon
  4. Stir occasionally
  5. Dissolve cornstarch in water and add to other ingredients
  6. Let mixture thicken
  7. Remove from heat and add butter
  8. Serve hot or cold
