Traditional Southern Fried Okra

Ingredients

  • 14 c corn meal
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 14 tsp pepper
  • 6 c 12 inch thick sliced okra
  • 12 c vegetable oil

Directions

  1. Combine cornmeal salt and pepper in plastic bag
  2. Add okra and shake well to blend and coat 1 cup of okra at at time to cornmeal mix
  3. Put 14 cup oil into a cast iron frying pan and heat until hot
  4. Add coated okra a little at a time until brown
  5. Yield about 10 servings
  6. Add additional oil as needed
