Waldorf-Astoria Red CakeRed Velvet Cake

Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp cocoa
- 2 oz red food coloring
- 1 12 c white sugar
- 12 c shortening
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 c sifted cake flour or 1 34 c all-purpose flour
- 1 c buttermilk
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vinegar
Directions
- Make a paste of the cocoa and food coloring and mix well
- Set aside
- Cream the sugar and shortening
- Add eggs one at a time beating well
- Add vanilla and the red paste
- Mix well
- Add flour and buttermilk
- Dissolve baking soda in vinegar and add to batter
- Mix well and pour into two round cake pans
- Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean
