White Bread
Ingredients
- 1 c milk
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 2 12 Tbsp shortening
- 1 c warm water
- 1 pkg yeast
- 6 c sifted flour
Directions
- Scald milk Stir in sugar salt and shortening Cool to lukewarm
- Pour warm water into bowl Sprinkle yeast and dissolve Add milk mixture Stir half the flour into mixture then add rest of flour and combine
- Turn dough onto floured surface and knead Put into greased bowl
- Brush with melted shortening
- Cover and let rise 1 hour and 20 minutes Punch down Divide into 2 equal parts
- Knead
- Place in loaf pan
- Let rise 55 minutes
- Bake at 400 for 50 minutes
- Makes 2 loaves
